Team Canada Visits Australia!

This layout is a gift for my girlfriend Karen who used to compete for team Canada in the Modern Pentathalon. The new Australia Collection from Paper House was perfect for these photos of her tour of the Sydney Harbor!

Apparently this was a photo shoot to thank sponsors for outfitting the team.  I don't know the details so I created a hidden journaling spot for her to jot down her memories.  I attached the tag to this really cute cardstock sticker with some foam pop dots and it tucks away behind the top picture in the photo collage.
She had saved a piece of ephemera from the event which was 8"x8" and too large for me to fit on the page. It seemed a shame not to include such a cool graphic element so I scanned it in and printed out a much smaller version.  It is perfect as a bit of journaling!
I used a craft knife to cut along the curve of the bridge printed on the Sydney Harbour background paper and slid one corner of a photo inside the slit.  I used a Spellbinders die to cut and emboss the arrow...
...which directs the eye to the title of the page.  I had these white dimensional letter stickers in my stash and colored some of the letters with Fired Brick Distress Ink - because red and white are the colors of the Canadian flag.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find some time to play today!  Susie

Collecting Moments and Memories with Fancy Pants

This snapshot captures a moment in time and holds the memories of my childhood.  I treasure this photograph of my mother cuddling me at naptime and found the perfect elements to scrap it thanks to Fancy Pants, Susan K. Weckesser and Want2Scrap.

This embellishment cluster features one of my favorite stamps from Susan K. Weckesser.  It is so obvious, but so true - "Mother is a verb, not a noun" - and is one of the valuable lessons I learned from my mother.
The die cuts from Fancy Pants Collecting Moments are wonderful and I found a little ticket that I slipped in next to this picture, proclaiming this moment as "my time".

I stamped this image of a little girl (also by Susan K.Weckesser Designs) onto cardstock before I die cut and embossed it with a Spellbinders die.  Then I used the die as a stencil and inked the background with Peeled Paint Distress Ink.
I also added some tiny Sage Green self adhesive pearls from Want2Scrap - so delicate!

Grandma's Needlepoint stamp set also includes this sentiment, which made me chuckle, "A little girl is sugar & spice And everything nice - Especially when she is taking a nap."  From stories my mother has shared, this was absolutely true about me!

"Memories" is a Fancy Chipboard Word from Want2Scrap and I left it completely bare.

Thank you so much for stopping by - I hope you find some time to play!  Susie

November Girl Layout with Want2Scrap and Susan K. Weckesser

Want2Scrap® teamed up with Susan K. Weckesser for an entire week earlier this month and I have another project I am excited to share that combines her paper and stamps with Want2Scrap® Chipboard and bling -  my November Girl layout!

I added self adhesive Coral Pearls to accent the sun image on the “Good as Gold” cutout.  I decided to paint  “November” to match the teal in the paper using my DecoArt Traditions Artist Acrylics:  Phthalo Green-Blue added to a base of white paint.  Perfect!  Once it dried I coated it with Glossy Accents – the shine really makes the Fancy Chipboard Words just pop off the page!

I love, love, love the new chipboard Fences designed by Nina Brackett!  They come in 2 sizes, and the larger set is perfectly sized to coordinate with  Susan K. Weckesser’s Little Haven stamp from Unity.

The house was stamped, paper pieced and painted.  I used a dry brushing technique on the chipboard fence to make it look all old and peeling, then I adhered it to the page with Scor-Tape.  I also  created this floral embellishment by layering a couple of flowers  and then placing each of these individual little gems exactly where I wanted them.  I love how it turned out!

Be sure to check the online store for the paper by Susan K. Weckesser and all of the Want2Scrap® products I used on this layout.  You can find the links at the bottom of this post.

Top 10 (actually 14) Favorite Christmas Ornaments Mini-Album

I love Christmas.  It is one of my favorite holidays. I often find myself picking up ornaments from vacation spots so that when Christmas comes, I can recall all those happy memories.  I realized I tell the same stories every year as we decorate the tree - some the kids remember, some they don't - so I created a little mini-album with my favorites Christmas Ornaments:
The first thing you may notice is that it is not "traditional" Christmas colors. I found this Sweet Summertime Envelope Album Kit by Little Yellow Bicycle in my stash and I really loved the bright citrus-y colors and the fabulous shapes.  The colors coordinated perfectly with the Lime Twist Line from My Mind's Eye, which happened to have a cute little Top 10 journaling card, which inspired the cover - and title - of the album!

I used Photoshop to add journaling to wallet-sized pics of my favorite ornaments:

The envelope format was perfect because I could make little tags that would go inside each envelope and would tell more of the story - I really like hidden journaling.  On this first tag, I just listed the dates and locations of some of our dive trips.

The tags were easy to make with a circle punch, an eyelet and some baker's twine.  The tags also gave me a place to use up some of my stickers - my fins, dive mask and snorkel are precisely that color of pink!

I started to go through my embellishments and realized I had leftovers from the scrapbooking layouts I had created for these trips.  I picked up the little boy and girl patches from a sewing store...aren't they sweet?  I also found a Canadian coin  from the trip to Niagara Falls.

When I was cropping the pictures and adding the journaling I framed them so that the ornament was off to the left or the right.  That way there was a dark area created by the Christmas tree that makes the white jornaling really pop!

When I first started collecting ornaments, I always tried to find an angel, however, that was not always possible - and there are some pretty amazing non-angel ornaments I would have missed out on - like the wax ornament from Germany of the baby Jesus.

I had more ornaments I wanted to include than I had envelopes...so I created more envelopes by using the MLYB ones as patterns.  I just traced them on the paper from MME - and they work together perfectly!

So think about making yourself a little mini-album using non-traditional colors.  Take some pictures this year of your favorite ornaments then comb through your stash for all those leftover embellishments, preserve some special memories and share some funny stories.

I hope you find some time to play today!  Susie

Altered Canvas Christmas Stocking

December is just around the corner and it is time for the 5th Annual Christmas Love Campaign!

The Susan K.Weckesser Design Team is celebrating a Handmade Christmas and will be sharing projects in honor of the campaign.  This Christmas stocking is my offering:
The stocking is from Canvas Corp. and the stamps are by Susan K.Weckesser for Unity.  The house and word "home" are from the Little Haven set and the snowman is from the One of a Kind Winter set.

I used letter stickers from Fancy Pants on the cuff of the stocking and covered them with gesso.

I removed the letter "O" and sprayed with Ferrari Red Chalkboard Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels.

When I removed the stickers I outlined the letters with a black pen then added a bow using a ribbon from May Arts.

I used the same technique on the body of the stocking...just with smaller letters!

The house was stamped and heat embossed with white embossing powder, then water-colored with soft colors so it would fade into the background.

The snowman appears in the foreground because of the dark outline and bold colors.
I hope you are inspired to create your own Hand-Made Christmas this year.  To further encourage you, how about entering your Hand-Made Christmas project in a little contest?

Remember our American Heroes on Veteran's Day

I acted as a chaperone for my daughter's US History class on a trip to tour some of the US Monuments dedicated to our fallen heroes.  I really feel blessed at times like this to live so close to Washington D.C.  We visited the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.
This page was so easy to pull together using the Washington DC Collection from Paper House.    The paper already had a collage style background incorporating marble, a US flag and a city street map.  The collection also includes cardstock stickers and 3D stickers which provided perfect little accents.   All I really added was chipboard letters, a stenciled star, and a tag for journaling.

We always observe Veteran's Day at our home by flying the US flag in honor of our fallen heroes.

Thanks for stopping by!  Susie

Moxxie Forever Fall and Project Life

I have been watching my girlfriends create beautiful Project Life pages for a long time now.  I am not ready to jump on board quite yet, but I am completely open to dabbling!!

Moxxie's Forever Fall collection was the perfect opportunity to give it a whirl!
I like to joke that I love to see how, as scrapbookers,  we have progressed from having photos displayed in pocketed album pages to...displaying photos in pocket pages!

And now the details.  This is the paper I used, called Fall Cards, from Moxxie.

This made the perfect title card.  I overlaid the printed flourish with Swirls Finesse from Want2Scrap.

For this pocket, I used the reverse side of the paper and stamped a journal block.
The photo covers text but it creates a great photo mat.  I *love* the botanical print on yellow!
Great chevron pattern behind "F-A-L-L", don't you think so?
Love the little piggies so much I made a ticket to go with them!
I included a photo on this pre-printed journal block then added stickers describing my son @12.

I really see the appeal of this kind of scrapbooking.  It was fast and easy!  I can see myself using pages like this on a regular basis, supplementing a traditional scrapbooking page like this:

Here's how you could WIN this amazing line:
  • Visit all the posts this week on the Moxxie blog to see our Fighting Back projects and leave comments each day for an entry.
  • Follow Moxxie on facebook. Comment there and share this post on your own facebook page for additional entries.

Moxxie's Forever Fall is Perfect for Pumpkin Patch Pictures!

October is over but I still have lots of  pumpkin patch pictures to share!
It's a good thing I had plenty of Moxxie's Forever Fall collection!
This layout includes (5) pictures of my son from one of our past trips to the local pumpkin patch. I like to pack in the pictures, but by varying the size I keep them from overwhelming the layout.  Just look at the embelishments I was able to include, too!

I created a title area with simple alpha stickers and accented with some popped up leaf stickers.

"October" is a fancy chipboard word from Want2Scrap.  I painted it with acrylic paint and added a coat of Glossy Accents.

A tag for journaling and a sprinkling of stickers finish it off!!

Tomorrow we start a week long inspiration week on the Moxxie blog featuring  Forever Fall
so be sure to stop by for a chance to win the entire collection!

I hope you find some time to play today!  Susie
