Halloween Jack-O-Lanterns with Quick Quotes

Hello and Happy Halloween!

Today and I would like to share a simple yet festive Halloween layout. I used papers from the Quick Quotes Sheer Joy and Calypso collections to capture the colors of the season!

Carving Jack-O-Lanterns with daddy is a long standing Bentz family tradition and I wanted to include as many pictures as possible.  The strip of pictures across the page are each 2.75" square.  I printed them with a black border, but you can get the same effect by mounting them on a 3.25"x12" strip of black cardstock.

The lighter orange paper across is Calypso 200 and the darker paper across the bottom is Sheer Joy300.

The Quick Quotes Bundle - Holidays had several appropriate sentiments to choose from for Halloween, but I settled on this one. I inked the edges with Midnight Confessions PowderPuff Chalking Ink and popped it up with foam adhesive dots. Perfect!

I used a couple of small strips from Sheer Joy 200 to pull in the colors of my boys clothes.  I inked the edges, added black mats and accented them with self-adhesive black pearls.

Have a safe, happy Halloween and be sure to take lots of pictures!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find some time to play today!

Tombow DT Application

Tombow is having a Design Team Call and I am throwing my hat into the ring!  I first learned about them because of their excellent adhesives, but crafters should know they also produce high quality markers and colored pencils!

For the first round, they require a post with at least 3 projects to "show off my style and talent" and so I am sharing some of my favorite projects here! The original posts are rather lengthy with lots of pictures, instructions and supplies, so I have opted to include links to those posts.  Feel free to click through for more information if you would like!

Project #1:  CARD

Fall is my favorite time of year. This is a card I created to celebrate the season, using one of my favorite techniques - die-cutting!
Check out the original post here:  Fall is Here:  Happy Harvest!

Project #2:  TAG

Tags are a great way to play with lots of techniques and materials.  On this one I got to use inks, stencils, paints and embossing powder.   You can find the original post here:  Steampunk Angel

Project #3:  LAYOUT

I have been to New York City a few times in my life but I never made the time to visit the Statue of Liberty.  Crazy, right?  Earlier this year my sister and I met up and had an unforgettable visit with Lady Liberty.  Let me tell you, she is jaw-droppingly gorgeous from every angle!!
You can find the details here:  New York City Layout

Project #4: DIY Mask

With Halloween just around the corner, I decided to share one of my favorite DIY projects ever!  You can read more about this project here:  Steampunk Mask

Thank you for viewing my Tombow Design Team Application post - and wish me luck!  The finalists will be announced on the Tombow Blog on November 4th.

"Respect the D!" Football Layout with Paper House Die Cut Stickers

The first year my son played youth football was a lot of fun!  His team ended up winning the championship and he was a big contributer on defense.  This layout contains most of my favorite pictures from that season.  It was really easy to put together a photo collage and then accent with Football Die Cut stickers from Paper House.

Here are some detail shots:

The orange game tickets are from the Homecoming 3D Sticker pack:

I really like the silver foil football silhouettes in the Die Cut sticker pack:

This downs marker is actually from the Football 3D Sticker pack:

Sharing My Everyday Circus!

I absolutely adore the Everyday Circus collection from Fancy Pants!  I paired it with a chipboard album from Want2Scrap and created this fun photo display:

I chose to use the House shaped album from Want2Scrap - because sometimes it seems like life in my house is a circus!  I have a pretty handy family and one of my brothers helped me create the display stand.
We took a piece of 3/4" plywood that was about 3" wide and 23" long.  He cut 4 grooves in it with a table saw, varying the distance between the grooves.  I painted it a bright red and displayed my album pages standing up!

I used the color coordinated alphas from Fancy Pants to add a couple of key words to this title:

I don't know about you, but I have a bunch of silly goofball pictures of my kids.  This mini-album display was the perfect way to showcase them and Want2Scrap bling created awesome accents:

Everyday Circus Clowns with Want2Scrap and Fancy Pants

Want2Scrap is teaming up with Fancy Pants this month and I was just tickled to receive the Everyday Circus Collection.  I took the opportunity to create a layout from a trip to an actual circus and feature some pictures of my own cute clowns!

This is a representation of the overlay I used from Want2Scrap.  Note that the yellow area in the picture is actually the white background paper and it is attached to the paper behind the laser cut circus tent.  I wanted to isolate the Big Top so that I could use patterned paper behind it.

Here is how I did it:

  1. Remove the overlay and use ink to lightly color the paper.  It was too white for this particular project.
  2. Replace the overlay.  Using a pencil,  trace around the area of the background paper I want to keep.
  3. Use a craft knife to carefully cut out just inside the pencil lines.  Remove and set aside for later.
  4. Place the red cardstock under the hole you just cut in the white background sheet and trace the shape.  Cut it out and set it aside.
  5. Glue the white cardstock piece from step 3 to the back of the overlay as shown.
  6. Glue the red cardstock piece from step 4 to the back of the overlay as shown.
Now that the circus tent is isolated, back the overlay with a sheet of Big Top paper from the Everyday Circus collection

Next I just started to play with my pictures.  I built a collage around the "Send in the Clowns" Brag Card.  I used one of the Small Decorative Tags behind this picture of an incredible high wire act:

I used a piece of Classy Corners bling to highlight this brag card:

And a piece of Mardi Gras Beautiful Bling Borders was the perfect accent for this little embellishment!  I added a tiny photo of my son in some clown hair to another of the Small Decorative Tags:

I love the way the 2 Cute Bling Bracket draws the eyes to the picture of the circus parade!

Pumpkin Traditions with Quick Quotes

The beautiful oranges in the Quick Quotes Sheer Joy collection are perfect for scrapping your family pumpkin patch pictures!
I started by cutting a mat for my 5"x7" photo from Sheer Joy 300.  I lightly distressed the edges and inked them with Java PowderPuff Chalking Ink.  I added some twine to the left side of the photo.  I layered that on top of a larger mat cut from Sheer Joy 700, which I inked with Rusty Nail PowderPuff Chalking Ink.

The Quick Quotes Holiday Bundle is a great collection of themed cardstock and vellum quotes.  I found the perfect sentiment for my layout and inked the edges with Java.  I used foam dot adhesive to pop it up on my layout.  I inked the manila tag with Rusty Nail and tucked it behind the photo mats.

The Fall Leaves Bag O'Chips had the perfect chipboard accent for this layout.  I let them trail across the layout from the top right to the bottom left and then added a coordinating chipboard title.

US Air Force Family with Paper House

Paper House Productions has a new line of licensed US Military products now available and I was very happy to get my hands on the Air Force Collection!

My husband served in the Air Force for many years, working with missiles and satelites.  I was able to combine 3D Air Force stickers with the 3D Space Cadet stickers and came up with this layout that makes me smile!

In this portrait he is wearing his Missile Badge.  I added a 3D Missile to the left side and the Space Cadet title underneath:

He received several merit awards for his service and I love that Paper House has the perfect sticker to embellish those award presentation photos!

At one point, the Space Shuttle used to launch from the base he was stationed at in California so he had these pictures of SLC-6 (Space Launch Complex).  The Blast Off! sticker is from the Outer Space Cardstock sticker set:

I included a journaling area at the bottom which I will let him fill in.  Love the 3D uniform jacket!

I also used the US Military products from Paper House to create another layout about my immediate family members who also served in the U.S. Air Force.  This time I combined it with the Family Overlay from Want2Scrap:

This is how the overlay actually looks.  I made a slight alteration by using a craft knife to cut off the "Family" title, flipped the whole overlay over and added the title back on the bottom left.  I did that so that the American Flag from the All American background paper would be prominently featured in the upper left.

I added a 3D sticker, creating a very distinct title area:

This is a picture of my brother Ed.  He had a long and distinguished career as a fighter pilot before retiring after 30 years as a Colonel.  I paired his photo with one of the Air Force Tags and added dimensional stickers:

My sister Carolyn graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1981, a member of the second class of women to attend.   I combined her USAFA cadet photo with another Air Force Tag and dimensional sticker:

This is a picture of my father, Joseph B. Madden.  He was a recipient of the Air Force Cross, which is the highest honor awarded by the United States Air Force.  I love the star spangled silhouette of the man saluting!  I added a 3D Medal sticker on top of him to represent my father's award.
