Mixed Media Fun and a Giveaway!

This weekend I am celebrating National Scrapbook Day with a little Mixed Media fun!  Scrapbooking has so many different looks these days, from traditional 12x12 layouts to pocket pages.  The goal of all those beautiful pages is the same: preserve memories and share stories.  Scrapbooking has become a passion for me and today I have joined in on a blog hop with some very talented and like minded individuals!   I hope you have a chance to visit everyone and be inspired by the variety of projects and styles.   Be sure to go to the end of this blog post to see the hop list and to get in on my giveaway!

Lately I have been exploring my collection of stencils and inks, creating unique backgrounds for the photo collages I like to build.  Last month I shared a layout from a recent family snorkeling adventure (HERE) and today I am sharing the companion page I created to finish off the pictures from our morning swim with the manatees!

I started by applying Whipped Spackle through the Jamboree stencil by Rebecca Baer Designs.  After it dried - which really only takes a few minutes -  I made a light application of color using inks in blues and greens.  Then I replaced the stencil and shifted it slightly from its original position, and inked again.  This is an easy way to use a the same stencil to give you a little extra visual interest.

I did the same thing in these sections.  The curved elements in the stencil remind me of a splash of water and by shifting the stencil I got an even bigger splash!

Once I was happy with the colors, I spritzed a couple shades of Glimmer Mist across the layout to add a little shimmer and shine.  I arranged my pictures, stamped a sentiment, and added a title.

Next I reached for Therm O Web Liquid Adhesive and painted it on a few places on the layout.

After a couple of hours it had dried to a tacky finish and I applied Deco Foil, burnishing with my fingertips.  I have to say this is a super easy way to add a beautiful detail to your projects!

The finishing touch was a sprinkling of self adhesive rhinestones from Want2Scrap!
