Off to School Layout - Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop & Giveaway!

Today I am joining in on the May 2015 Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop and I'm sharing a school layout using a favorite collection from Fancy Pants Designs.  There are 16 talented ladies participating this month.  You should have arrived here from Lee-Anne's blog.

For my project this month I dug through my stash and found some papers from 2011!  I bought a few pages from the Off to School collection from Fancy Pants Designs with the obvious intention of scrapping school pictures...I just didn't get around to it until now! *grin*  Fortunately the collection is full of fun classic images and I love it as much today as I did when I first bought it!

In the top left I also pulled out a tool I haven't used in ages - scissors with decorative edges!  I used them to cut the "stamp" and then inked the edges.  I am not sure where I got the wood veneer pieces from, although I think they may have been Michael's store brand.  The project life style cards are waiting for journaling - I always add that after I share a project so my kids can have some privacy!  ;)

I threw in a piece of flair from the Basic Grey Hey Boy! line.

All of the pencils on the layout are trimmed out of a piece of paper from the collection.  I inked the edges and adhered them to chipboard before adding them to the layout. I love the dimension you can get with just a thin layer of chipboard!

Across the bottom I stacked more pencils and "stamps.

All of the little accent pieces, like the Report Card tucked behind the photo, were also trimmed out of one piece of paper from the Off to School collection.  In fact I only used 3 pieces of paper for this whole layout!

As a Thank You for stopping by today I am going to do a giveaway of wood accent pieces from my stash.  I will also throw in a pack of flair - and a pack of bling from Want2Scrap!

You can do any or all of the following to enter:
1) Become a follower here

And then leave me a comment to let me know which you have done!

This giveaway will remain open until 11:59 pm on June 3rd!  I will announce a winner within a couple days!

Now Hop on over to the talented Christine's Blog!

Wrestling with ColorWays

Today I am sharing a wrestling layout I created for Paper House using the new ColorWays collections.  I combined elements from the Noir and Sapphire lines with an easy mixed media technique and I really love the results!

Probably my favorite piece from the Noir Collection is the Stencil Grit paper.  The distressed numbers are just cool!  I wanted to use it as the background for this sports page but I thought there was too much contrast.   By simply watering down some gesso and dry brushing it over the paper I was able to mute the design and create a softer background.  Here you can see the difference:

I adore the rub on transfers from the ColorWays lines!  Rub-Ons are very popular in mixed media and the sets from Paper House contain a nice selection of graphics, words and phrases.  I used my primary photo as the background and added a mix of rub ons to create a wonderful graphic element on the layout.

Paper House has a wonderful setof 3D Wrestling stickers.  I chose some pieces from the ColorWays Sapphire Collection to coordinate with the blue on the stickers.  They were slipped behind the photos as photo mats. I also added another rub on to the photo below - the white on white adds subtle visual interest!

The Noir Accent Pack is a collection of 42 eclectic pieces to mix and match.  Many of the pieces have metallic foil, like the card I used below.  (Any day of wrestling is a pretty good day!)  I also used a few pieces of washi from my stash - and the 4 white diamonds are more rub-ons!

Finally, here's a banner detail created with a piece from the wrestling stickers and some chevrons trimmed out of paper from the Sapphire collection.

Washi Tape Mushrooms in the Garden!

Today I am sharing a sweet garden themed card I created for Love My Tapes

The washi tape I used on this card may be found in the LoveMyTapes  Etsy store.
Red Dot Mushroom washi tape
I stamped and colored this cute little image from My Favorite Things onto white cardstock...

...then added a strip of washi tape across the bottom and mounted it on red cardstock.  It couldn't be simpler!

The red dot mushrooms on a light blue background provided the color inspiration for the little lady!

Join the Navy Layout

I have wanted to create a layout with my dad's official Navy portrait for a while, but I had to wait until I found the right mix of papers and embellishments.

This US Navy logo is from Want2Scrap and is the perfect title element.  The laser cut top layer sits on top of an etched gold metallic bottom layer.  It is gorgeous!

The red, white and blue color scheme of the Seaside Collection from Authentique was perfect for this  layout.  The American flag and the cork arrow are stickers from Paper House.  I added some Sleek Strip Rhinestones in red from Want2Scrap.

I fussy cut a strip of anchors and another of ships from paper in the Seaside 8" paper pad then popped up a few bits from the cardstock accents sheet.  I created a nice embellishment cluster by adding more red rhinestones, a cork anchor and some washi tape.

I always like to personalize my layouts with custom embellishments.  I used the Spellbinders Around the World die set to create the miniature earth, stenciling through the die with coordinating ink.
I used another Spellbinder die, Fleur Essence, to create a nice sub-title area by cutting and embossing red cardstock.  Another Navy 3D sticker from Paper House is the finishing touch!

Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope you find some time to play!  Susie

Time for Graduation Cards

This is the time of year we all think about graduation and it is a good idea to have a couple of cards in the house.  I designed a super simple CAS (Clean And Simple) card that is going to be really easy for me to reproduce.

The washi tape I used on this project can be found in the Love My Tapes Etsy store:

The Mix & Match die set from Momenta has 2 different size stars with 2 different inserts.
I used the large size to cut and emboss gold metallic cardstock and placed it by the stamped sentiment.

I cut and embossed 2 of the smaller size stars and popped one of them up to add a little dimension.

Awesome Adventure Layout with Paper House

School is almost out!  Have you already planned your summer vacation adventures?

Today I am sharing a layout from a trip the family took a few years ago. Many of you know that every summer I pile my kids into the car and drive down to visit my family in Florida.  Well, every year we drove right past the signs directing us to Natural Bridge in Virginia.  We finally decided to check it out and it was well worth the time!

Paper House has a great selection of papers and stickers for any of your adventures in The Great Outdoors! I actually started by creating a tag as the main embellishment for the page.  I have done this before in a layout I shared back in November.  You can see the details HERE.  The process is basically the same, I just switched up some of the details and came up with this tag:

For the background of the layout I reached for The Great Outdoors 12" Paper Pad from Paper House. It has 24 different paper designs to choose from and several of them are specialty papers with foil or glitter.  It really has something for every kind of outdoor adventure!  The paper I chose for this layout is of a sun speckled path through the woods and has glitter on the fern fronds along the edges.  It really is gorgeous!

I trimmed off about 1/8" from each edge and centered the paper onto an olive green cardstock.  I added my tag and a double matted photo...

...which I then dressed up with one of the new SnapShots stickers!

The chipboard title from Want2Scrap is the perfect finishing touch.  I left it completely bare and it looks great with the outdoorsy feel of the layout!

Tulips in 20 Minutes!

Tulips are my favorite flower so I was really excited when I found out about a local farm celebrating "Holland in Haymarket."  Burnside Farms plants more than 5 acres of spring flowers in one of the largest "pick your own" flower events in the entire world!  The best news is that it is only 20 minutes from my house!

The layout was super easy!  In addition to the pictures I took that day, I added a couple of the new SnapShot stickers from Paper House.
I looked through my Love My Tapes washi  collection and found the perfect tapes to match colors from the photos.  I love wood bits so I added some chevrons below the title.
I also used colorful strips of rhinestones from Want2Scrap in a few places - I just love pairing them with washi tape!
I actually created the patterned paper in the background with inks and a couple of stencils, but I will share that with you another time.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find some time to play today!

Want2Scrap A Day at the Zoo?

I visited the Miami Zoo one day last summer with family and the one thing these pictures do NOT show is how hot and muggy it was!  Florida in July - what was I thinking?!

Just kidding - I do it every year, but this was my first visit to the Miami Zoo and Want2Scrap and Paper House made it easy to scrap!

I used a 6x6 overlay from Want2Scrap to create a title area - the laser cut detail is amazing!  The opening is perfectly sized to hold a 4x6 photo.  I added a couple of pieces of Beautiful Bling Borders -Mardi Gras bling from Want2Scrap on each side of the title.  The cardstock chimp and koala stickers are from Paper House.

Paper House also has this cool Africa Map collage paper featuring a large image of a giraffe.  I trimmed it down to 11.5" square and centered it on some black cardstock.

The Zoo Cardstock Stickers were perfect accents for this layout!  I popped them up with foam dots for a little dimension.
To tie everything back to the overlay, I matted all the pics on black cardstock.  I love this one of my daughter and her cousin posing in one of those silly photo ops in the park!
The border strip across the bottom is also from the cardstock sticker sheet.  I cut and pieced it so it would fit on the page.  If you look closely, you can see where I did it - after the "Bears" and before the arrow to the "Reptiles."

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find some time to play today!  Susie
